What is African Soul Surfer?

A creative space for fun, positive energy and the rejuvenation of surfing soul and community, primely located at the birthplace of SA surfing, Muizenberg's Surfers Circle.

The Sandbar – A 'clean' bar that offers free Wifi over a AAA grade ethically-sourced African coffee, hot chocolate, multiple teas, or range of raw juices and power-food-based smoothies. All made with pure Table Mountain spring water as a base. Simple meal of the day and wholesome snacks also available.
The walls are adorned with historical Muizenberg surf images and anecdotes from the pioneering surfers of the 50's-70's eras, plus a selection of canvas prints of some of SA's best waves. Surf movies playing all day on the big screen.

The Peanut Gallery – A monthly studio space to exhibit local Surf Photographers and Surf Artists in individualised exhibitions. Live music on these nights in The Sandbar courtesy of our many underground muso mates. These events are about giving the artists exposure, bringing the surf community together, and benefiting good causes. There is a R25 door charge and all proceeds go to one of our Charity Partners each event;
Shark Spotters, 9Miles Foundation, Share the Stoke Foundation, NSRI, Waves for Water & Sea Shepherd.

The Ocean & Earth Studio – A purpose-built studio space that looks onto both the mountain and the sea offering daily multi-discipline yoga classes (Yin, Vinyasa & Yoga for Surfers), surf-fitness training, and occasional evening talks by interesting people.

Other facilities are a games room with pool and ping-pong, board storage room, hot showers, lockers and a massive 30m long balcony with the best view of the surf in Muizenberg. The second floor is for overnight guests only and has 15 rooms (8 sea-view) sleeping 50 people, and a large roof terrace with some truly stunning views.

Making Waves Project – We work closely with the outstanding 9Miles Foundation. They are doing incredible work in giving the impoverished youth from Strandfontein hope, in the form of stoke delivered through surfing, as well as having a strong focus on staying in school and providing positive role models from the community. We have setup a Volunteer Program to supply volunteers from abroad who assist with the weekly afternoon coaching/sport & homework schedule.
